Whilst on my way to get my morning coffee, I came across the above scene, where one of the Painting & Printmaking Department's visiting artist had claimed and defined her own little nook along one of the the first floor corridors connecting the school's two halves. In many ways this spot is particularly unremarkable (it's a very 'corridory' space), but her act, be it for pure meditational or performance based purposes (probably both) added, through her subtle and benign intervention, something quite unique to this locale.
Whilst she was there, the angle and quality of the light entering from the adjacent window became much more noticeable; the white paper she was sitting on contrasted and complimented the whiteness of the background wall; and in her absolute stillness she, nevertheless, managed to retain and manifest a tension that provided a intriguing anthesis to the space (a walking corridor - a mobility based space) in which she was stationed... Her silent, ethereal and understated, yet quite ingenious, act catalyzed the space in a much more succinct way than any more boisterous intervention ever could...
