Small Bizarres No. 29 - Street-lighting, Amsterdam & Doha...

For anyone who has even driven down some of the main traffic arteries criss-crossing Doha, Qatar, one of the first things one notices are the very distinct 'fishing-pole' street-lights stretching along each side of Al-Waab Road as well as some of its perpendicular extremities... Imagine then my surprise when, whilst walking in some of the more recently developed neighborhoods in the outskirts of central Amsterdam, I suddenly come across some of these very same light-posts jutting across a small neighborhood plaza...

Small world and small bizarre indeed...

Photos from one of the residential gated complexes in Doha, showing two sidewalk design idiosyncrasies...

A sidewalk for really narrow people...
